![]() ![]() ![]() I say scariest because in a list of many other scary books Future Crimes stands out both because it is non-fiction but also because of the absolutely stunning number of meticulously collected and classified cases from a variety of seemingly unrelated fields. ![]() If that is not enough Goodman is also the Chair for Policy, Law, and Ethics at Singularity University as well as the author of the scariest book I have ever read in my life – Future Crimes: Everything Is Connected, Everyone Is Vulnerable and What We Can Do About It. It starts off pretty slow, almost like Ashton is trying to find his voice. It could be described as brutal urban fantasy, combined with a small amount of YA elements and mixed with all the demons, Gods, and mythological creatures you were too lazy to research at school. Written in third-person present tense, Paternus often reads more like a film script than a novel. Like many, I found out about Ashton and Paternus by following 2016's Self Published Fantasy Blog Off where this book was awarded third place by the panel of recognised and influential bloggers. ![]() I would like to thank Dyrk Ashton and Paternus Books Media for the opportunity. I don’t know if anybody else saw it, but we never did. Mom, of course, thought I was going to be a big movie star and she told everyone to watch for the picture. I saw a little bit of this epic one time at the studio, but that was all. I must have hit that hard painted pavement about fifty times before the man hollered “Cut.” The second morning when I showed up at the studio I was so sore I couldn’t even think about breaking my falls. And there was nothing to break my falls except the flesh on my bones. Each time I took a fall I landed on the hard old floor painted to look like sidewalk. He knocked me down about twenty times the first day of shooting. Opposite me there was a comedian who’ll kill me because I can’t remember his name.
